Blog Mess

Folks,
Updated to WordPress 2.2 and suffered heinously for doing so. Two plugins (King Text and King Links) that power the entire sidebar of Cerulean Sanctum are not compatible with the upgrade. WordPress 2.2 changed the way the app uses widgets and seriously fried those two widgets/plugins. Hoping an update comes soon and that I did not lose all my sidebar customization. Took me many hours to tweak the sidebar code to be what I wanted.
Ugh. Spent hours troubleshooting the problem as the blog did not respond at all and gave major errors. In what can only be called “bitter irony,” WP 2.2 is supposed to have a new feature that prevents messed up plugins from crashing your blog. Needless to say, my first test run proved that one needs to go back to the drawing board. I basically had to delete all my plugins and start adding them back in one by one to see which caused the lockup.
Ugh II.
So if the sidebar looks vacant, you’ll know why. Sorry.

Yet another case of the new and improved software messing everything up so profusely that it takes days and weeks to figure out, and you do so just in time for the next newest and latest upgrade to put you right back in the same situation.
Have you ever wondered if maybe the whole internet thing is actually more trouble than it’s worth? Obviously Al Gore has to go back to the drawing board.
Boy am I glad I read this. I’m using King Text and Links too, but I never even bothered to upgrade to 2.1, let alone 2.2 since 2.1 made my theme go hinky.
I’m sticking with WP 2.0.X and refuse to upgrade until I have no choice. I may be missing out on a few new plugins that only work in 2.1 or better, but I’m not gonna cry over it. Besides, the plugins I have now already emulate 2.2’s “newest features.” *rolls eyes*
And bloggers wonder why I prefer to handcode my site.
