This last week at Cerulean Sanctum, we’ve been looking at the issue of money. In something new for this blog, I opened up four polls asking readers to vote on questions concerning tithing, how churches spend money, the theology behind wealth and giving, and, lastly, a poll on how we Christians should prepare ourselves financially for times of crisis.
If you’ve not yet taken those polls, please do. They begin to expire Sunday at 6:00 PM, with each day seeing another close. To all who have voted so far, thank you.
The Tithing Poll - Open until 6:00 PM, Sunday, March 2, 2008
The Church Finances Poll - Open until 6:00 PM, Monday, March 3, 2008
The Theology Poll - Open until 6:00 PM, Tuesday, March 4, 2008
The Crisis Poll - Open until 6:00 PM Wednesday, March 5, 2008
Have a great weekend! And come back this next week as I breakdown these results in the “Banking on God” series.

Dan, I’m going to make myself very unpopular here by pointing out that the kind of blog polling you’re doing is statistically speaking worthless and isn’t going to tell you anything worth knowing. It’s a curious and fun exercise at best, but it’s completely invalid and says nothing about the larger picture of what’s going on in this country.
It baffles me why you’re wasting time on this.
Oengus,
No it’s not Zogby or Harris or Gallup. I understand it’s not a representative sample of Evangelical churches in the West.
However, it’s probably a decent representation of the active readers of Cerulean Sanctum. And truthfully, I’ve been surprised at many of the answers. People who have written me with “That question didn’t really apply to me, this is how I believe” have also been helpful. Honestly, I’ve quite enjoyed watching the results come in.
So it may not be scientific enough to be worth publishing, but it’s still useful information to me—and I hope for my readers.
Heeeey! I wish that I read Moonbones’ comments before I took all 4 polls
I’ll be interested to see how you use the feedback from the polls.
KB,
Some of the results of the polls have surprised me. The polls themselves may not be scientific or even good questions (I seriously misused a word in one poll and basically ruined it, for instance), but I believe they have value, especially as a small slice of active readers of my blog. I’m glad I did the polls. While I might not rely on them much in the future, I may trot one out every once in a while.
