Tim on the Terrors of Tech

Standard

Tim Challies hits an inside-the-park home run with his post on the possible evils of technology and what they mean for believers. As someone who’s becoming more and more of a neo-Luddite as time goes on, I think his assessment is dead-on righteous. Can’t really add much more. Loyal readers of Cerulean Sanctum know that I’m a quasi-agrarian besides my affinity for flipping off technology’s switch. Yes, I realize the hypocrisy of blogging about these things, but the fact remains; I don’t think we’re better off as human beings for all our wondrous tech inventions. Something has gone wrong with our disconnected society. I see social networks decaying faster than you can say “neighbor.”

Oengus Moonbones, a regular reader with a keen sense of discernment, has labeled me “Dismal Dan” whenever I get on these kinds of topics, so rather than continuing to fuel that appellation, I’ll just point you all to two good books on this topic:

Enjoy!

A Shameless Plug for e-Sword

Standard

I think the best electronic Bible system available for Windows-based computers is e-Sword. Given that it is entirely free (though donations are gladly accepted), I want to thank Rick Myers for providing such an outstanding tool out of the goodness of his heart.

This may be a little late to the game, but as someone who has loaded up on the plug-ins available for e-Sword, I don’t always go back to the site to check for additions. Though it’s been almost a year, I see that the English Standard Version is available for download from the site. Excellent.

If you are a PC user (I’m a Mac guy, but I have a PC, too), this is essential software. Check it out today.

Wanted: The Next Killer Blogging App

Standard

Code for FoodWho says I have to make a spiritual comment all the time? Today, I’m calling all geeks out there to complete a very needed task. I’m putting out a request for the next killer app for bloggers.

This is what I want: A way to track all the comments I leave on other blogs.

That’s it. Leave a comment somewhere and this app records the URL of the comment automatically. Make it work with Blogger and Haloscan, for sure. Movable Type, Type Pad, and Live Journal would be essential, too. As for everyone else? Well, you can’t please everyone. I’m a Mac guy. I’m used to that.

Even better? You could have it open up and show in a single window your orginal comment and any comments that have come after it. No need to go to the various sites you posted comments to in order to do follow-up.

Oh, and I need it like yesterday.
