Cover of 'Deep EconomyDiane Roberts of Crossroads clued me into Bill McKibben’s latest tome, Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future. You’ll notice that I’ve added the book to the sidebar under “Essential Reading.” Not too many books wind up there, so this should tell you something.

If you’ve read Cerulean Sanctum for any length of time, you realize that I blog on several pet topics repeatedly:

McKibben, who self-identifies as a Christian, has written a book that details the problems our society faces with regards to these issues, then lays out solutions. Because I believe Christians must be on the forefront of these issues, I believe this to be a criticaly important book, and one that illustrates in a way that all readers will grasp why we should be concerned.

In the days to come, I’ll be discussing the main talking points of Deep Economy and why we must confront them if we’re to live out the Gospel.

Stay tuned…

I’m interested in these issues too. I have written out an invitation to repentance concerning another issue that is close to me. Anyone who reads is invited to take part in whatever way and to whatever extent they feel led to: http://intothedesertblog.blogs.....-name.html

I’m heartened that you’re recommending this book–I don’t agree with McKibben’s views on global warming but I think the issues he raises in this book–your bullet points–are critical one for which Christians must be leading thinkers and change-agents. Keep harpin’ on these issues, bro!

Dire Dan: “…a book that details the problems our society faces…”

I’ll look for the book, Dan, for I know it’s at my public library.

Now about the “problem our society faces”: One theory is that America is already under judgement, as it is struck by a thousand different blows, again and again until either America repents or America is completely destroyed.

And when I read the prophets, I noticed that one of the first things that happens to such a nation is that its rulers are first reduced to being fools who have no wisdom to govern. I look around and what do I see? Our politicians are a crew of vain, egotistical, self-serving, careerist phonies who haven’t any clue as to what to do.

So there might be something to this theory. I don’t know.

Be that as it may, the very least we can do is stop being fooled into voting for The Party of Greed, Globalism, and Quagmires (R) or The Party of Abortion, Buggery, and Surrender (D).

You’ve got me convinced to look for this book. These are matters that are going to come up again and again- anything to help verbalize truth better in my life is WELCOME! thanks for the pointer in this direction.

In fact, maybe I’ll order it through your Amazon :)
