Dear Readers,

Due to a bizarre DNS propagation issue, this site has been unavailable to some of you. My ISP assures me that this has been fixed.

If you are continuing to see random outages of Cerulean Sanctum, please let me know. Otherwise, I think we’re good to go!

Expect a post soon on Halloween alternative parties that churches host.

If You Have Problems Reaching Cerulean Sanctum…

I updated my DNS pointers Oct 3. Those pointers direct people to the server that hosts Cerulean Sanctum. This was part of the server migration that occurred the month before that I had neglected to change. Usually, such a change propagates quickly and most people will have no problems afterwards.

Since that DNS name server switch, though, some people have reported sporadic inability to load the site. Or the site loads on one computer of theirs but not another.

I’m checking with my ISP to see what we can do to resolve the problem, should there be one on the ISP’s end. However, I am more convinced this is isolated to the computers of individual readers. If that’s you, I may have a fix.

One thing I do on startup is to flush the DNS information on my PC (as this is less of a problem on Macs). If  your IP address is sent to you from your ISP by DHCP, you can refresh the DNS and your IP on your PC by doing the following:

1. Go to the DOS prompt (“Run cmd.exe”)

2. Type in the following lines at the prompt, each line followed by pressing the return/enter key:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

That will clean up your Internet connection settings (and may actually speed up your Internet connection in some cases).

If you continue to get sporadic messages in your browser along the lines of “Cannot Find Server” or you can’t reach the site on one computer but can on another, please email me a screenshot of the error message and your IP address. I will work with my ISP to resolve the issue if it should be something that can’t be fixed via the means I just offered.

Sorry for the inconvenience if you are having troubles getting here. Thank you for your patience. It’s been a load of server/computer issues here the last few weeks, which is regrettable.

Malicious Hack…

Folks,

If the blog looks different, it’s because it got hacked. As I keep my WordPress install clean and all the security permissions right, I’m not sure just how it happened. As the blog has a few old plugins that I was using long after their prime, I suspect that an insecure plugin may have been at fault, so most sidebar and plugin items are off. I’m also looking into possibilities for compromise due to the recent server migration.

Bear with me as I try to piece everything back together. As an insecure plugin may have been the cause, it means a lot of work for me to pare my plugins (of which I had dozens) and try to restore only those that are current.

Thanks.

Folks,

Cerulean Sanctum was down earlier today after some .htaccess issues in the wake of a server migration, but it’s back up.

If you experience any anomalies with the site, please let me know.

Thanks for being a reader.
